As the year comes to a close and a new one begins, what would you like to shine a light on?
The winter solstice marks a sacred threshold—a pause between what has been and what is to come. It invites us to turn inward, slow down, and make space for renewal.
In this end-of-year workshop, we shift with the changing rhythms of the body. Through Movement Ritual and Dance Explorations, a somatic practice devised by Anna Halprin, we release what no longer serves us and reconnect to the deep wisdom of the body.
With heightened awareness, we attune to sensations, emotions, and images that invite inner clarity.
We’ll move through themes of descent and ascent—dances of falling and rising, resting and reawakening.
We’ll walk with intention to remember our resilience and the path we’ve traveled.
We’ll attune to the pulse of the heartbeat to awaken the inner light that lives in each of us.
At the end of the series, we’ll complete with a creative ritual honoring the gifts of both darkness and light.
You are invited to embody a longing, a vision, or a dream for the year ahead, a creative spark that wants to be lived into the new year.
No dance experience needed, only a willingness to explore. Please create a comfortable space to move and have writing and drawing materials on hand.
To get the most out of this online class, please prepare a comfortable space to move in with access to your online device and reliable internet service. If you are using a handheld device, such as a pad or phone, please be sure to use a stand for your device so that it is held securely in place. You will want to have your hands free and be able to move freely and safely during movement exercises without worrying about your device falling. Have art supplies ready at hand for the drawing activity and paper and pen for journaling and creative writing exercises.

Joy Cosculluela (she/her) RSME, MFA, CMT, resides in the ancestral lands of the Ohlone people, otherwise known as SF Bay Area. Joy is a performing artist, somatic educator, and artistic director of Wayfinding Performance Group, a multicultural ensemble of artists in SF. She was associate teacher and dancer with Anna Halprin and The Sea Ranch Collective. Joy has collaborated with numerous Bay Area artists and has worked as a guest teacher at San Francisco State, University of Washington, Center for Empowering Refugees and Immigrants, Nature Talks, and Body-Mind Centering Association. She holds an MFA Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College, is artistic director of Performance Lab San Francisco and is core faculty at Tamalpa Institute in Kentfield, California. wayfindingperformance.com
Registration will take place on Eventbrite. Upon payment you will be given access to register for the class series through Eventbrite and emailed instructions on how to receive your Zoom link for the class. If you do not receive a confirmation email from Eventbrite, please email Workshops at Tamalpa immediately.

- REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Registration will close 1 hour prior to the start time of the first class.
- REFUNDS: will only be given if cancellation is received at least 48 hours before the start of the first class. No partial refunds or transfers available. Eventbrite’s registration and processing fees are non-refundable.
