4 Mondays, June 7 – 28, 10-11:30AM PDT
As we transition to summer in the northern hemisphere, we ignite our senses and invite light and lightness into our bodies and imagination. Supported by somatic awareness, we work with Movement Ritual to explore movements on the ground, to standing and moving through space. We experiment with space, time and force to illuminate different qualities in our dancing. Drawing and writing add layers of discovery as we acknowledge the arrival of the summer solstice and celebrate the creative light within.
Movement Ritual is a structured sequence of movements devised by Anna Halprin that helps relax the mind, increases somatic awareness, range of motion, flexibility, strength, and serves as a foundation for creative movement explorations. Open to all. No dance experience required. Please create a comfortable space to move and have drawing and writing materials on hand.
Learning objectives:
– learn the movements of the spine
– learn about the elements of space, time, and force in dancing
– learn to execute 3 movements from MR
– learn three art modalities (movement, drawing, writing) used in the Tamalpa Life/Art Process
Open to all. No dance experience required.
To get the most out of this online series, please prepare a comfortable space to move in with access to your online device and a reliable internet connection. Also, have art supplies ready at hand for drawing activities, and paper and pen for journaling and creative writing exercises.
