FAQ

Tamalpa Institute offers a comprehensive training program for individuals who wish to incorporate the principles and tools of embodied creativity into their own personal development and professional practices. The training includes experiential exploration through the arts, philosophy and theory of the practice, and basic maps and methods of the work. Students learn to facilitate the application of the Life/Art Process in such fields as expressive arts therapy, education, consultation, health care, organizational development, community service and the arts.

The training is comprised of Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. Students seeking practitioner certification and professional registration as somatic movement therapist/educator and/or registered expressive arts therapist, are required to complete all 3 levels of study.

The Level 1 Training may be taken on its own as an intensive personal experience which focuses on Personal Embodiment of the practice and presents the principles and methodology of the Tamalpa Life/Art Process. The focus in Level 1 is on the participant's personal growth and creativity.

The focus of the Level 2 Training is on Embodied Leadership - the development of advanced personal practice and professional applications of this work in the community. Although the L 1 training may be taken on its own, we strongly recommended that Level 1 students who are interested in advanced personal practice and who wish to incorporate this work into career development or professional practices, clarify their intentions early on and plan to complete the Level 1 and Level 2 training programs sequentially.

Level 3 Training is an online course that provides Fieldwork Supervision. This training segment provides students with supervision, peer discussion and feedback while working in specific settings and with particular populations in communities around the world.

Both Level I and Level 2 training programs are offered in two formats: an Immersion format and Weekend format. The Immersion format is a 3-month long program offered once a year and the Weekend format is a 12-month program meeting one long weekend a month, offered once a year.

Upon successful completion of the Level 2 and Level 3 Trainings, students may be eligible to apply for the following certificates and degrees (additional requirements may apply.):
  • Certification as a Tamalpa Practitioner

  • Registration as a Somatic Movement Therapist/Educator

  • Registration as an Expressive Arts Therapist

  • M.A. and Ph.D. degrees through other institutions, using the Tamalpa Trainings.
